Chapter 13

They had barely made it back in time for the wedding. Lucky and Liz were so blissed out, they hadn’t even noticed that they hadn’t seen the three of them all weekend. Nikolas later found out that Liz and Lucky hadn’t even left the suite. Lucky tried to volunteer more, but Nikolas told him he had already heard too much information. Lucky was way too enthusiastic about it.

Ned and Alexis’ wedding was a sort of coming out party in a lot of ways. The first was during the wedding itself. After all the bridesmaids had made their way down the aisle, Nikolas and Alexis were left alone in the antechamber…

“Nervous….?”

“No, I’m just tearing off your arm because I’ve had a little bit too much caffeine.”

“Well, I guess that’s understandable. But I’m going to have to apologize Alexis.”

“What for? You’re here aren’t you…and Ned’s here, isn’t he? Tell me Ned’s here…”

“Ned’s here. I just saw him. First of all I want to thank you for helping Gia.”

“You did all of that yourself Nikolas. I still don’t know how you convinced Emily.”

“I did, that’s all that matters. But I still have to apologize. I won’t be able to walk you down the aisle.”

“You’re not sick , are you? Tell me you’re not sick?…is it the perfume are you allergic to the perfume?”

“No, it’s not my place.”

“What do you mean it’s not your place? You’re the only family I’ve got left. Whose else place could it be?”

A voice from behind her said, “Mine.”

She turned and saw Stefan and Chloe standing at the entrance to the church with Gia.

“Miss Campbell, if you’ll please look after Chloe…Now Alexis…I believe we have a wedding to attend…”

Alexis stood in shock….Tears rolled down her face…

Chloe whispered to Gia… “Is she happy?”

“Oh yeah….”

The wedding march sounded and the doors opened. As they took their first steps down the aisle, a collective gasp was heard from the audience, followed by a loud cackle of laughter that was later attributed to Luke Spencer. Nikolas followed with Gia on one arm and Chloe on the other.

Stefan and Alexis were both smiling and whispering under their breath.

“Where were you? You’re supposed to be dead.”

“Mother as usual was up to her little schemes…”

“So you returned just in time to upstage me at my own wedding.”

“Well if you like I could ask Mother or Spencer to kill me if you’d rather I remain dead.”

“Maybe later. Right now just make sure I can do this….”

After the ceremony a happy side effect of Stefan’s return from the dead was the press diverted their attention away from Ned and Alexis, who managed a quick getaway. Stefan refused to go into detail as to where he’d been. What was equally shocking was the reaction to Chloe’s blindess and pregnancy. People didn’t know whether to be happy or sad for her. They were even more shocked when Stefan and Chloe announced their engagement.

Away from the press, and the general clamor over Stefan’s return, Nikolas and Gia danced.

“So…all Cassadine weddings like this?”

“Oh…Not really….and why do you want to know…?”

“Just wondering…”

“No….nobody’s tried to kill anybody yet…”

“Oh that’s usual…?”

“It’s not unusual, let’s put it that way…”

Nikolas felt a tap on his shoulder. Looking around, he saw Taggert behind him. “Mind if I steal my sister for a second.”

“As long as I can have her back…”

“I don’t think that I’ll have a choice about that…”

Gia put her arm on her brother’s shoulder. “You know I don’t think we’ve done this since I was ten.”

“No time like the present.”

“So where’s Hannah?”

“I wouldn’t know.”

“You broke up with her?”

“About three weeks ago. But I’m not surprised you haven’t noticed.”

“Oh? And why is that?”

“Everytime I look at you, you seem to be looking at the Prince. Is there something going on I should know about?”

“Marcus, do want details, cause if you do…”

“No, no…I don’t need details. I just want to know he’s treating you right.”

“Like a princess.”

“Really. Is that going to be literal anytime soon?”

Gia stopped dancing. “What do you mean?”

“I mean how serious is this? Am I going to have to have the serious big brother talk with Nikolas? Does Mom know?”

“No, mom doesn’t know yet. It’s not something you can tell her over the phone. Guess what, Mom? I’m dating a prince with a castle and all. And no I’m not on drugs, Mom. It’s not something a girl from Bensonhurst usually says.”

“Well, you like him so much, should I be making room for you or are you going back to Brooklyn?”

“I think I’m going to be staying with him at his cottage.”

“Whoa…that’s a big step. Don’t you think you’d better tell Mom he exists before you tell her you’re moving in with him?”

“Yeah I guess so. I mean, I’m just scared.”

“Of what?”

“Of losing it. I mean look at me, Marcus. I’m at an opulent wedding with the storybook prince. Me, the geeky little girl from Brooklyn. And what’s Mom going to say…I can see it now….she’ll say Nikolas doesn’t care for me, that girls like me don’t get guys like him, I’m only a fling, a phase…”

“And are you?”

“No…at least I don’t think so….I don’t know…I just know it feels right…but there are so many things happening…so fast…”

“He didn’t push you into anything did he?”

“No…No…he’s been great…I just don’t know….he’s so good, Marcus, so good. He deserves better than me.”

“Hey…..hey…any guy in the world would be lucky to be with you…You know that. I know that. And I think Nikolas knows it too…”

“You’re just saying that because you’re my brother.”

“I’m saying it because it’s true. One thing though….”

“What’s that?”

“Be careful. Nikolas may be a great guy, but his family’s deadly, especially his grandmother.”

“Oh, Granny Good-Times…I’ve already met her, thank you. She just loves me.”

“I’m sure she does…”

“Well, speak of the devil…”

Taggert turned to see Helena enter the reception hall with a vicious grin on her face. Her eyes went straight to Stefan, who was circling the dance-floor with Chloe. Stefan looked up and grinned.

“Ah Mother….I see you’ve decided to join the festivities…but then you weren’t invited were you?”

“And I see the whelp has bred. Such a sad day for humanities’ stock.”

“Yes, I’m afraid I’m cursed to pass on your genes to the rest of the world…”

It was at this point that Nikolas came up behind Gia…

“Let’s get out of here…”

“Okay…where are we going?”

“I’m going to check on Em, see how she’s doing. Then we’ll go introduce you to my little sister Lulu and my mom. She’s going to love you…”

Gia hoped so. But it scared her. This was all too good. Too fast. Something had to go wrong.
