~*~THE PERFECT GIFT~*~ Two
days before Christmas, Nikolas had bought Gia her presents but was still
searching for the perfect gift. The
one he knew she would love. In
their talk a few days before, he discovered a side of her he never knew existed. The vulnerable side. Oh
Gia’s Mother, Florence, loved her daughter and gave her all she thought a
child should have. In their heart
to heart talk, Gia had told him she had wanted a certain doll when she was a
child. She thought for sure that
Santa would bring her this doll named “Meg”.
He didn’t. She cried
harder that Christmas than she could ever remember. Later
on, she would discover that her Mom had refused to buy her toys that weren’t
educational. She felt dolls were a
waste of time and money. All that
time, little Gia thought Santa
hated her. The
pain was still in Gia’s eyes, even all these years later. Not so much for the
doll, but because her Mom never cared what she wanted just what she thought was
best for Gia. The world according
to Flo, Gia had said. Nik
searched high and low for this doll. He
had to find it. It was a must.
The phone rang. Nik:
“Hello? Yes, this is
Nikolas Cassadine. You have it?
It’s a Meg doll right?? It
has to be Meg. GREAT!!
Price is of no concern to me. I’ll
be right there to pick it up. Thank you.” Nikolas
rushed out the door in the cold and snow. He had finally found it. His search was over. Gia
walked the mall with hope fading. She
found nothing even close to the best gift Nikolas had ever received. This had to be special.
One of a kind, original. Like
him. She didn’t want to buy him a
bunch of nothing gifts. One
outstanding one would suffice. She
was making good money now working for A.J. Quatermaine.
She could afford something incredible for him. He deserved as much. She
wanted to show him that she genuinely cared for Nik, the person.
It had to be something that showed she was loyal to him.
Unlike so many others in his life. She
found herself at the Dunkin Donuts counter, ordering a hot chocolate.
She sat on a bench with her warm drink to think.
Her thoughts drifted to a few nights ago.
They had a wonderful talk. She
spilled her guts to him and felt so good about it.
She had never shared the story of Meg with anyone.
She had never even mentioned her sadness to her Mother.
What would be the point? She
would tell Gia that it was years ago and to worry about more important things.
She never listened. Nikolas
always listened to her. She read in
his eyes that he was feeling her pain. His
eyes were so easy to read. Those
beautiful brown, warm eyes tell you just how he’s feeling.
That’s one of the things I love about him, Gia thought.
Did I say love??? Her head
spun a little. She tried not to
admit that, even to herself. They
would never be anything more than friends.
If Nikolas Cassadine wanted her, he would have made his move already.
No, it wouldn’t work anyways. The
Grandmother from Hell would see to that. Ok,
enough dreaming of the impossible. Back
to Nik’s gift. Lame ideas
ran through her mind. Nope, not
good enough…has to be something he would never expect of me. “I’ve
got it!!” Gia exclaimed. She
left the mall, not even caring the people staring at her thought she was a
little strange. Nik
was home and his find was wrapped and safetly under their 10ft. fully decorated
Christmas tree. They had a great time decorating that night.
The stringing of the popcorn and cranberries had been Gia’s idea, of
course. Tradition, she said.
Her and her traditions. He
had to admit, her homemade decorations made the tree look…comfortable. She
had done most of the work. He
helped with the lights and the angel on top.
Remembering her on that step latter and his heart nearly coming to a stop
when he saw her stumble off it. Thank
God he caught her before she hit the floor.
She had laughed it off and told him to get his paws off her.
She blushed a little and looked square into his eyes and said “Thank
You”. She was crass
sometimes on the outside but a very sweet person inside.
He loved that about her. Did
I just say love? asked Nik to himself.
No, she would never love me. My
family is certifiable. Why would
she want to subject herself to that? Plus,
Gia had never given him any sign that she wanted to be anything but his friend.
He
heard her keys in the door. She
entered the cottage and brought the chill with her.
In her hands she carried a beautiful green box with a huge gold bow.
Gia…”Hey
Prince.” Nik…”Hey
Sparky, where have you been? Getting
my present I hope. Is
that mine??” Gia…”Maybe”
(putting the gift under the tree) Now what would I get the
Prince who has everything? Oh
wait… you don’t have Elizabeth,
maybe I can wrap her up for you?” Nik…”Your
not funny. Stop rifling through
those presents!” Gia…(looking
shocked)”There are a lot under here for me.” Nik..”I
went a little overboard. I kept
seeing things that I thought you
would like.” Gia..(looking
glum) “Oh, I only have one gift for you.” Nik…”That’s
plenty. I’m sure you put a lot of
thought into it.” Gia…”Not
easy finding you something you don’t have.
I thought of a new
air refreshener for the Jag but you bought a new one of those too.” It
was Christmas Eve and Alexis and Ned were having a get together at their
penthouse. Gia had begged Nikolas
to take her with him. She knew she
was going to spend Christmas afternoon with her family so she needed an excuse
for Christmas Eve. Besides she
really wanted to be with Nikolas. Though
she would never tell him that. She
came down the stairs in her new red dress she bought.
She looked amazing and Nik was speechless.
She was complimented more than half a dozen times on her appearance
during the course of the night. She
was glad she had spent the money she did. It
was worth every penny. Was that a
look of pride in Nik’s eyes? I
wish! Gia thought. The
party had flown by and now she was in her bed thinking of her evening. She felt like she was in a different world.
She loved being a part of this. And
to be standing beside Nikolas made it even more enjoyable. Nik
sat in bed thinking of how beautiful she looked.
She was stunning. Everyone
thought so. Especially Nik. He couldn’t take his eyes off of her. Having her there with him had made the night even more
enjoyable. He
awoke to knocking on his door. He
looked at the clock. Six
o’clock??? He just went to bed! He
heard Gia’s voice. “Nikolas..are
you up? Wake up Nik. It’s Christmas.” He
pulled on his sweatpants and threw on a t-shirt. He opened the door to see her standing there.
Her hair was all pulled back. She
was wearing flannel pajama bottoms and a sweatshirt.
She looked amazing. When
he emerged from the bathroom, she was standing there waiting for him. An impatient look on her face.
“I had to take care of business and brush my teeth!” Nik pleaded. She
practically had to drag him down the stairs.
“Come on, let’s go. We
have to open presents.” Her
excitement made him smile. She was
giddy like a child. Gia..”I’ve
made hot cocoa and English muffins. We
can sit, eat and open
our presents!!” Nik…”Ok
but your going first. I want you to
open yours.” He
picked up her first present, making sure to bypass the “special” gift.
That one was going to be last.
She ripped at the paper with excitement.
Inside was a short black leather jacket she had seen in the mall when the
two of them went shopping for his friends together.
He knew her. He could tell
when she saw it that she loved it. She
put it on and danced around. “Thank
you. I love it”. She kept it on while Nik handed her the next gift.
Her favorite perfume. He was
so observant. The third package was
smaller. Jewlery, she could tell.
They were wonderful silver hoop earrings.
She had to try them on. What
a sight she was sitting there with her new leather jacket over her pajamas and
silver earrings hanging from her ears.
He couldn’t keep the grin off his face.
Boy, this girl could make him smile.
He loved how he felt when he was with her.
Happy, yeah, that’s the word. Something
this Cassadine didn’t feel all that often.
He didn’t have to put on airs for her.
He could be himself. And he
usually was. “Nik?
Hello??” She interrupted his thoughts. “Can
I open this one next?” She had
her hand on THE gift. “No, no, not yet” he said.
“This one”. He handed
her a rather heavy box. Beautifully
wrapped. This one was
expensive, she could tell. Inside
was a mahogany desk set. It had a
gold plate with her name engraved on it. The
pen and letter opener were beautiful.
Was this his way of telling her he was proud that she had found herself a
great job? Whatever, it was
spectacular. “Nik,
it’s lovely. Thank you”. Her smile was all he needed to know that she liked it.
This one worried him. Was it
too stuffy for her? He wasn’t
sure. He wanted her to know he was proud of her accomplishments.
“Ok,
time for the last gift with your name on it.” Nik said.
She was taking off all her other gifts and putting them in their boxes.
He took the gift with him and sat on the couch.
She followed. As she
ripped the present opened, she had the feeling that this one was special.
She could tell from his facial expression that this one meant a lot to
him. Gia sat there in silence
as Meg’s eyes stared back at her. She
couldn’t believe it ! It was her
Meg doll. She felt her eyes
fill up, only to empty on her cheeks. “Gia,
are you ok?” What had he done? He didn’t want this to be painful for her.
He only wanted to make her smile. His
plan had backfired. Here she was
crying on Christmas and it was all his fault.
She
lifted her head and looked him straight in his eyes and said, “Do you even
know what a good person you are? You
have the biggest heart of anyone I’ve ever met or ever will meet in my
life.” With that, she wrapped her arms around his neck.
She hugged him like she had never hugged anyone before.
He
felt the tears stinging his eyes. He
hugged her back. He could stay this
way forever. Her arms felt so good
to him. He was sad to see the
embrace end. Gia
wiped her eyes. Without letting go
of her new favorite Christmas gift, she got up and went to the tree. She picked up Nik’s gift.
“This one is for you. Understand
that this is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while.
It took me long enough, but now I can do this for you.” He
opened his gift with care. He
didn’t want this morning to end but with this gift, it would.
He removed the cover of the box along with the gold tissue paper.
There inside was a gold money clip. Strikingly
designed. But what caught Nik’s eye was the money in the clip.
He pulled it out of the box. Under
the clip were the words…I’M FOREVER SORRY!! PLEASE FORGIVE ME!!
He looked at her for an explanation.
Gia..”There
is $5000.00 there. I know you
don’t care about the cash, but it’s
something I have to do. I
was so bad when you first met me. I
did
things that I’m not proud of. The
blackmailing was something I will
never forgive myself for. But
if I had known what was going on in that
room that night, I would have done something.
I thought Emily was
this rich kid having a little too much fun.
I never dreamt that she was in
danger like that. You’ve
been nothing but wonderful to me since the
day we met in that alley. I
owe you this.” She
was crying a little now. Not
something she had intended. She
looked at him, to her surprise, tears were streaming down his face.
He put the clip and money back in the box and placed the box on the
table. When he looked back at her
she could see the heat in his eyes. He
moved closer. Took her face in his
hands and kissed her. It was long
and soft. Her lips were wonderful.
She was kissing him back. They both wanted this.
He felt relieved. When she
wrapped her arms around his waist, he took it as a sign.
She wasn’t letting go anytime soon.
Neither would he. He kissed
the tears from her cheeks. Then he
kissed her beautiful neck and slowly moved up to her ear lobes.
He felt her hands up the back of his shirt. He wanted her so bad, it scared the hell out of him.
She
was lost. She could only feel
him. Nothing else was in focus.
God, he was perfect. He had
started this but she was more than a willing participant.
But when it started to get too hot, she knew she needed to stop. “Nikky”
she said as she pulled away from him. “
I have to tell you, I’ve never……” she looked down as her voice trailed
off. He raised her face with
his hand. Kissed her lips. Nik….“Then
we wont..” Gia…“No,
no, I want to, I’m just……afraid”. Nik…”I
promise we will take it slow. I
will never hurt you”.
Nikolas
took her hand and together they walked to her room.
Their eyes never parting. They
made love, slowly and tenderly. He
made her first time perfect. In
essence, this was his first time as well. He
was making love to someone he loved and someone who loved him back.
It was a new experience for both of them. It
was the perfect gift.
